COPD Study
Description of Study: We are searching for participants already diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder)
Description of Condition: COPD is a disease affecting the lungs that gradually worsens over time. COPD partially blocks a patient’s lungs, which keeps air from flowing in and out when they breathe. Causes include smoking, air pollution, dust and chemical fumes. Patients may experience shortness of breath. Other names: Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis
There are four stages of COPD:
1. Mild COPD: Airways are only mildly blocked and patients may not even know they have COPD. Symptoms: chronic cough, sputum production
2. Moderate COPD: Airways become more blocked and symptoms worsen. This is when more patients seek medical help. Symptoms: chronic cough, sputum production
3. Severe COPD: Blockage of airways begins to affect the daily lives of patients. Symptoms: reduced exercises capacity, shortness of breath, fatigue, repeated exacerbations
4. Very Sever COPD: Airflow is severely limited. At this stage the symptoms can be life threatening
